A 14-year-old girl was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop in a stolen car and crashing in Rindge.
According to a press release issued by the Rindge Police Department, on Saturday at approximately 2:30 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on Route 119 for a Hyundai Elantra allegedly traveling at 65 mph in a 40 mph zone.
Police identified the driver as a 14-year-old girl from Manchester, and there were five other occupants of the car. Four of the occupants, who remain unidentified, fled from the vehicle on foot during the traffic stop, while a minor female remained in the vehicle along with the driver, according to police.
Police determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen from Manchester. During the traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Police attempted to follow the vehicle, and allegedly observed erratic driving. The vehicle turned onto Route 202 South, and then onto Perkins Road. Police located the vehicle crashed into the tree line on Perkins Road. The driver and remaining passenger had minor injuries and were taken to Monadnock Community Hospital for evaluation.
According to a post by the Rindge Fire Department, the two occupants were not wearing seat belts and “were very lucky to only sustain minor injuries.”
The juvenile passenger was released to the custody of a parent. Upon being released from medical care, the driver was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including receiving stolen property, operating without a valid license, two counts of disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest or detention, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and speeding. She was later released to the custody of a parent.
The investigation is ongoing. Attempts are being made to identify the other passengers, and additional charges are likely, pending investigation, according to police.
Rindge Police were assisted on the scene by Rindge Fire and Rescue, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, Winchendon Ambulance, Jaffrey Police Department and the New Hampshire State Police. Additional assistance was provided by Manchester Police Department, Gauthier’s Towing, New Hampshire Probation and Parole and the Division of Children, Youth and Family Services.
