Letter: We can help after devastation

The images and scope of damage from the Los Angeles wildfires are beyond my imagination. I know there is emotional pain along with the devastation. I also know that we, so far away, can help. I believe both we individually and as a nation should be kind, should show mercy, should help when ruin strikes.

There is a great need for food for the 150,000 people displaced by the fires and for first-responders. That is way more people than in all of the extended Monadnock region, all of Cheshire County to Mason to Hillsborough. I suggest that you pick an agency and donate money if you can afford to. Gather with friends and neighbors and brainstorm how you want to help. Talk with your church or a service organization. Write a letter to a national government official, or a local newspaper, if you think FEMA is an essential support to the people struggling.

I am sure that this will be a long recovery period. We know the people of our Southeast, of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida are still struggling. We can and should contribute more money to relief agencies there.

We have the ability and the power to help. Please step up and be active. Use your strength, resource, and power to respond to the news. Consider your options and take action.
