Letter: Kudos to Democratic representatives

Now that the 2024 legislative session is a wrap, our tireless House representatives deserve our thanks.

During 2023-2024, they have walked barefoot in the snow to Concord, uphill both ways, to represent Granite Staters fairly and intelligently. They have studied the issues, listened to their constituents and even reached across the aisle. Unfortunately, this session was marked by contentiousness aimed at our trans youth, further suppressing the vote and greater evisceration of support for our public schools and our kids.

The final chapter was written on the last day of the session. The “compromise” that would have made half the families and 60% of school-age kids in the state eligible for vouchers, euphemistically dubbed Education Freedom Accounts, was voted down, saving more than $50 million in the Education Trust Fund. An attempt to make New Hampshire the only state in the country to require a birth certificate, a passport or naturalization papers to register to vote was defeated. Recreational cannabis and an effort to set up another commission to study the Family Court system and DCYF went away. What a strong finale for our reps for the grand sum of $100 a year!
