“The last couple of weeks have not been exactly the easiest in my business career. Change brings with it its own set of insecurities. To all those who have taken time to speak with me over the last few days, or write pieces for our edition, thank you. Your comments mean a lot to me. I guess the time has now arrived to turn out the lights on this part of my life. Thanks to all of you, it has been one heck of a ride!”

 That was how publisher Joe Cummings closed out his piece in the Sept. 21, 2006, Peterborough Transcript, the last before a merger with the Monadnock Ledger created the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript.

To commemorate the final issue, the paper included stories and advertisements from every decade starting with the 1900s, as they were first published.
