Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker has been appointed to the Monadnock Family Services Board of Directors for fiscal 2025.

MFS, a community-based mental health care organization, provides services to more than 2,000 children and adults annually throughout the Monadnock region with serious mental health needs, many of whom are living in poverty.

Walker, who joined the Peterborough Fire Department in May 2014, brings both professional and personal perspectives to the board. As a first-responder, he has often encountered individuals experiencing mental health crises or trauma.

Additional, Walker stated his oldest daughter experienced mental illness as a teenager. He noted the importance of mental health services, explaining that his daughter’s progress was made possible through access to the resources provided by organizations like MFS.

“Fortunately, my daughter is doing well, but it is only because of the services she is able to receive,” Walker stated.

MFS Board Chair Reba Clough highlighted the importance of having leaders from the region involved in the organization.

“Having Ed join us is very helpful to our presence in the eastern part of the Monadnock region,” she stated.

Walker stated that he looks forward to supporting MFS fundraising initiatives and the staff at the Peterborough office.
