Letter: Thanks for MLK Day

As the sun broke through Jan. 20, over 120 community members gathered at Reynolds Hall, All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Peterborough, to celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Hancock Conversations on Race Group thanks all who participated, commemorating King’s call to justice and the “beloved community.”

We begin thanking All Saints’ Church for opening its doors, emcee Doug Sutherland and speakers Michelle Stahl, director of the Monadnock Center for History and Culture; Bridget Bauman, social impact and sustainability manager of the W.S. Badger Company; and state Rep. Jonah Wheeler.

We also thank the children of the Hancock Elementary School and Peterborough Elementary School who created the colorful decor reflecting themes of kindness and hope. We extend another heartfelt thank you to the participating representatives of local initiatives: Black Heritage Trail, Monadnock Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Coalition, Project Home, Manchester NAACP, League of Women Voters and the Antrim Fostering Conversations on Racial Justice and Hancock Conversations on Race groups.

We carry with us the legacy of King as we go forward into the days ahead.
