Hancock Elementary Students recently completed a hand-made mosaic with the help of local artist Julie Brown.

Brown, parent to an HES third-grader, visited with HES students to teach them about the steps to make a mosaic. The project began with students creating a design that was then voted on by staff and students. A total of 43 designs were received. The final design, a tree changing through the four seasons, was submitted by fourth-grader Nora Flamino.

Students worked on the project for a week, adding tiles Monday through Thursday before Brown helped with grouting Friday. The completed mural features the original tree design along with the HES husky mascot and other representations of the Hancock community.

The mural will be mounted outside the school’s main office.

“We are thrilled to have had this opportunity to have such a talented artist and committed member of the HES community visit with our students for this special event,” stated Principal Jessica Vezina. “The mural turned out beautifully, and will make an amazing addition to our school for years to come.”
