Kate Johnson of Hancock will be the featured artist with “Movement and Stillness” at the Hancock Town Library, 25 Main St., Sept. 7 to Oct. 16.

An opening reception will be held in the Daniels Room Saturday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.

An abstract artist, Johnson explores h inner and outer landscapes through acrylic paint on various surfaces, accented with ink, watercolor, pencil and other media. This exhibit includes new pieces stemming from her investigation into motion and stillness -- what it means to hold on, and what it means to let go. She explores how assumptions about self and others can get stuck, and seeks to inspire the viewer to move out of those habitual emotions.

For these pieces, Johnson experimented with mark-making, playing with different tools, scratching through layers and adding lines, shading, and color for the viewer to discover and interpret.

Johnson lives with her family in Hancock. She studied dance at Hampshire College in Amherst Mass.,, and earned a master’s degree in systems engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. She is a certified transformation coach.

More about Johnson and her work can be found at kate-johnson.com.

People can view the exhibit in the Daniels Room of the library during regular library hours of Monday and Wednesday 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the library at 603-525-4411 before visitin to ensure no special events are scheduled at that time.
