Letter: Blame the real culprit

Leaving the Jaffrey-Rindge school deliberative session on Feb. 5, one could only feel disheartened at the irresponsibility of those who were leading a negative group of people. While they thought that cutting the school budget by $3 million would solve the problem of school taxes, they only made it worse especially for the children.
The real culprit in the meeting, although not mentioned by the negative folks, is state funding for schools. This issue is easier to gloss over for these irresponsible people in favor of drastically cutting the budget. A simple reduction of $3 million! The negative folks want relief for their property taxes yet never mention that their friends in the Legislature do nothing to bring relief to property tax owners.
For too long, legislators have ignored the problem and complain when New Hampshire courts look at facts. They become concerned when decisions might actually bring relief to property tax payers. The Legislature is supposedly there to help taxpayers, yet turn their backs on them when it comes to school funding. Their lack of action is an absolute embarrassment.
While some may find their solution a good one, it is a huge step backward. Former and current selectmen as well as current and former state representatives should be providing positive leadership to provide long-term solutions and not pandering to negatives; their actions are extremely disturbing and unhelpful to property tax payers.
