LOCAL SPORTS RECAP: ConVal track takes first and second

ConVal’s boys’ and girls’ track teams competed in a multi-team meet at Hollis-Brookline High School Tuesday.

The boys team won their meet with 77 points, edging out Hollis-Brookline’s 71 and also finishing ahead of the Derryfield School and Tilton School. The girls finished second with 32 points, behind Hollis-Brookline and ahead of Derryfield and Tilton.

Josh Decker won the 1,600-meter run (5:07.61) and the 3,200-meter run (11:10.91). Jamie Post won the 110-meter hurdles (16.85 seconds) and the triple jump (36-feet, 6.75-inches). Jack Harris won the pole vault (10-feet, 6-inches).

Anthony Cadwallader won the high jump (5-feet, 8-inches) and finished third in the 100-meter dash (11.66 seconds). Sam Davis won the javelin with a throw of 122-feet, 8-inches. The boys’ 4x400-meter relay team of Griffin Schultz, James Post, William Simard and Sam Davis won their event in 3:46.10.

Other top-three finishers for ConVal were Maxx Telofski, who took second in both the shot put (41-feet, 4-inches) and the discus (113 feet). Nathan Klonel finished second in both the 1,600-meter run (5:24.10) and the 3,200-meter run (11:58.59). Kendrick Edwards took second in the 200-meter run (23.13 seconds). Ethan Whitaker finished second in the long jump (14-feet, 7.5-inches).

Griffin Schultz finished third in both the high jump (5-feet, 4-inches) and the 400-meter run (56.61 seconds). Bretton Davies took third in the long jump (13-feet, 9.5-inches). Roman Cadwallader was third in the shot put (39-feet, 10-inches), and Morly Johnson was third in the discus (105-feet, 3-inches).

For the girls, Tasha MacNeil won the javelin (100-feet, 11-inches) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (13.07 seconds). Callie Post won the triple jump (26-feet, 5.75-inches) and finished third in the long jump (13-feet, 0.25-inches) and third in the 200-meter run (30.08 seconds).

Other top-three finishers were Alia Dodge, second place in the shot put (21-feet, 7-inches); Jennae DeShane, second in the discus (66-feet, 5-inches); Brooke Johnson, second in javelin (82-feet, 8-inches); Aida Davis, third in the 400-meter run (1:04.89); and the 4x100-meter relay team of Maisie Michaud, Whitney Adair, Aida Davis, and Tasha MacNeil, which finished second in 58.36 seconds.

After three losses before and after spring break to Sanborn, Lebanon and Bishop Brady, the Conant girls tennis team has picked up two wins against Monadnock on Monday – 5-2 in a makeup match and 6-1 in the regularly scheduled match. 

Conant now has a record of 3-6 and was scheduled to play at St. Thomas Aquinas in Dover on Wednesday and home against Monadnock on Friday.

Senior Night is scheduled for Monday, May 13, during a doubleheader home match with Pelham.

SOFTBALLConVal no-hit by Laconia

On Friday the Cougars hosted Laconia with Sydney Borges on the mound and Avery Moore behind the plate.

The Cougars held the Sachems until the sixth inning, when a run scored on a dropped third strike strike to the backstop. The Cougars put 11 balls in play but did not get a hit, and could not score their only base-runner in the first.

The Sachems won the game 1-0 behind sophomore Kaydence Stinson’s no-hitter, and she also recorded her 200th strikeout. 

Borges struck out 18 to bring her to 122 strikeouts on the season. In seven innings,  she allowed one hit, walked two and allowed one run.

The Cougars were scheduled to host Hanover Wednesday.
