Letter: Support the For Our Freedom Amendment

Do you feel like you have no voice in the direction of our country? Do you think our government has been bought out by unchecked money flooding our elections? You are not alone.

There is some hope, my fellow New Hampshirites. American Promise is a cross-partisan organization focused on uniting Republicans, Democrats and independents to win the For Our Freedom Amendment, which will put an end to billionaires having the ability to buy our elections, and allow us to restore the people’s voice in government.

January marks the 15th anniversary of the Citizens United ruling and the 49th anniversary of the Buckley v. Valeo ruling. These misguided Supreme Court decisions took away our freedom to put reasonable limits on the raising and spending of money in our elections. As a result, the people’s voice has been shut out of our government. The good news is that eight different times in our history Americans have come together to correct the Supreme Court by amending the U.S. Constitution.

An amendment is the only lasting solution, and 77% of Americans across the political spectrum already support the amendment. The For Our Freedom Amendment would empower, but not require, the states and Congress to set reasonable limits on campaign spending.
