There are those people among us who exemplify what community service is about. They take on the burden of protecting the rights and needs of those around them. I consider RichéColcombe one of these extraordinary persons.
She and her husband moved here in 2016. Her community service started with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Commision. She was elected as a trustee of the trust funds and then voted into the state House of Representatives in 2022 from District 30.
The bill that would fast-track veterans seeking licenses for professional endeavors is one of her favorites. This bill not only supports our veterans, but also fills critical positions. Colcombeis also a strong advocate of women's rights, stating that any person should be given equal opportunity in all areas, no matter their sex.
The housing shortage is a prime concern. She worked in her first term to secure nearly $900,000 for both Antrim and Hillsborough to create more affordable housing, and to secure a land donation for the Hillsborough Community Center.
Some of her key concerns in the upcoming legislative session are to reduce the property tax burden without creating new taxes, safeguarding the constitutional rights of the citizens, election integrity and representing the will of all the voters in District 30.
As I was speaking with her, I asked,“ Who are your role models for public service?” She responded“ those people who drafted the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights, along with every person who put their life on the line to give us this freedom we enjoy today. These are the true role models.”
RichéColcombe has captured my vote for her willingness to give so much for others. You know -- the community.
