On Saturday, residents across the ConVal School District gave hundreds of dollars in cash donations and nearly 1,000 food items during the End 68 Hours of Hunger Stuff an Ambulance event.

End 68 Hours of Hunger is the local chapter of a program that provides children with bags of food for the weekend. On Saturday in the Shaw’s parking lot, members of Peterborough’s Fire & Rescue Department helped to collect donations and delivered them to the End 68 Hours of Hunger headquarters in one of the town ambulances. Peterborough Fire & Rescue holds several Stuff an Ambulance events throughout the year.

Program Coordinators Carol Cleary and Linda Caracappa said they were very pleased with the turnout. The event resulted in 970 food items worth $1,239, plus $671 in cash and checks and a total of 119  bags of food donated to the program.

“The weather was cold and snowy, but people were enthusiastic, some came just for the food drive. We collected a lot of food, money and we even got two future volunteers,” said Caracappa.
