In August, four students at Lamy's Black Belt Academy in Peterborough achieved various levels of black belt: Taylor Cole (15) and Travis Cole (12) of Lyndeborough, Skyler Cope (19) of Hancock and Amanda Meltzer (42) of Lyndeborough
Taylor and Travis Cole and Cope all earned their first-degree recommended black belt, while Meltzer earned her fifth-degree black belt.
Meltzer has been known around the dojang as "Master Meltzer" since she became a fourth-degree black belt in 2016 and will continue with the title of "Master Meltzer." She is the first at the academy to earn the rank of fifth degree, and the only student at the academy who has been with the academy from white belt to fifth-degree black belt.
The Coles became the first brother-sister pair to earn their black belts at the same time at the academy. Cope also set the record as the student who took the longest to earn his black belt. He had been eligible to test for his black belt at least two prior times, but COVID, life and injuries pushed his testing date back.
