The local roots band Tattoo, featuring the husband-and-wife duo of Fred Simmons and Leslie Vogel, will perform Thursday, July 11, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Hancock Town Common.

Tattoo was formed in the late 1970s in California, then moved to Oregon (opening for The Grateful Dead, Robert Cray and Peter Rowan) and eventually to Alaska before returning to the East Coast in 1986 and settling and re-forming the band in the Monadnock Region. Tattoo plays American roots dance music on mostly acoustic instruments. Some of their songs are originals, while others are oldies from the worlds of soul, Motown, Cajun, reggae, swing, country and rock ’n’ roll.

In addition to Simmons on trombone, guitar and tambourine and Vogel on piano and accordion, the band includes Dan Wheeler on bass, Paul Day on drums and Walden Whitham on sax, clarinet, flute and rubboard.

Attendees can bring lawn chairs or blankets and picnics. The Hancock Farmers’ Market will also be happening on the Hancock Common from 4 to 7 p.m.

This free performance is part of the Hancock Summer Concert Series, which is held every Thursday night through Aug. 15.
