Letter: What a difference four years makes

On Jan. 6, as our Constitution requires, Congress convened to witness counting of electors’ votes. Vice President Kamala Harris, also following the Constitution, proclaimed Donald Trump the next president.
It took less than an hour.
On. Jan. 6, 2021, it took 14 hours and 41 minutes, 140 police men and women injured, and seven associated deaths. Months before the election, all polls, even Fox News, showed Joe Biden well ahead, some by as many as 10 points. Nonetheless, for months, Donald Trump was saying the only way he could lose was if the election was rigged.
When Biden won that November, Trump publicly launched his “Stop the steal” campaign. Two months later, on Jan. 6, he launched a mob that violently occupied the Capitol building to stop the electoral process—the largest assault on police in our country.
He’s called it a “day of love,” called the mob “patriots,” and called those in jail “hostages.” He has said he will pardon them.
A majority of the country seems to agree with him.

A democracy needs informed voters. Truth often is hard to find when there are so many people spouting lies about so many things.
We have to, especially if we vote.
