Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative Middle/High School is participating in a recycling challenge, collecting plastic bags to find a new use for them.

The school is participating in the NexTrex plastic recycling challenge, where community groups or individuals collect 1,000 pounds of plastic in the form of grocery bags, which are recycled into a bench made of the recycled plastic. Bags collected at Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative will be made into a bench for the school.

NexTrex creates wood-alternative plastic decking and railings material. Its recycling challenge encourages communities to collect plastic waste over 12 months. The plastic can be collected a a number of participating recycling partners, which in New Hampshire include Market Basket, Hannaford, Kohl’s, Ocean State Job Lot, Shaw’s, Whole Foods and Price Chopper, for delivery to NexTrex.

Materials that can be recycled include grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, freezer bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap and stretch film, wood pellet bags and produce bags.
