Anne Swayze named interim head of school at The Well School

Anne Swayze will serve as The Well School’s interim head of school for the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the announcement from Board of Trustees Chair Nathaniel Peirce, Swayze met on campus with the search committee, trustees and the Faculty Advisory Committee.

“It was evident to all that Anne is an exceptional independent school leader and educator with over 40 years of experience in the field,” he stated. “In all of her previous positions, she has demonstrated a commitment to creating a warm and supportive school community and building strong relationships with students, faculty, staff and parents. She values experiential learning, the arts, innovative programs, diversity and community partnerships. Her educational philosophy is rooted in lifelong learning, multisensory learning styles and creating a dynamic learning environment and community.”

Swayze started her career at the Oldfields School in Glencoe, Md,, as teacher and athletic director before joining the faculty at Proctor Academy in Andover, eventually serving as assistant head of school and dean of students.

Swayze also served as the director and assistant head of school at the North Country School in Lake Placid, N.Y., before her most-recent position was head of school at The Greenwood School in Putney, Vt. 

According to Peirce, Swayze has started coming to campus to meet with Trustee Steve Salisbury to prepare for the opening of school.

Swayze, who is planning to live in Peterborough by the time school opens, currently lives in South Sutton with her partner Robin Asbury and their  two children, Hannah Asbury, a recent graduate of the University of Vermont, and Elliot Asbury, a recent graduate of Kearsarge Regional High School who is headed to study at Roger Williams College in August.
